Den bygger på en beräkningsalgoritm (Tryggvason, 2014) som utifrån jordartstyp (enligt SGUs produkt Jordarter 1:25 000 - 1:100 000), terrängmodell (Lantmäteriets nationella höjdmodell) och kritisk lutning (1:10) definierar markområden med finkornig jordart som har förutsättningar för jordskred. Utöver detta har informationen bearbetats ytterligare i GIS-miljö för att minimera systematiska fel. Sådana områden kallas i denna produkt aktsamhetsområden. Produkten är tänkt att användas i tidigt planeringsskede för att identifiera områden där skredfara kan förekomma och där ytterligare bedömningar/undersökningar kan behöva göras.\nEtt lerlagers skredbenägenhet beror inte bara på marklutning, utan även på dess tekniska egenskaper. Metoden tar inte hänsyn till detta utan betraktar alla jordlager av viss jordartstyp (främst silt och lera) som skredkänsliga vid viss marklutning. Detta innebär att inom många av de identifierade aktsamhetsområdena är lerornas egenskaper sådana att någon risk för skred knappast föreligger, trots att lutningskriteriet är uppfyllt.\n\nSom komplement till modelleringen baserad på lutningsanalys innehåller produkten även en enklare GIS-analys i huvudsak baserad på närhet till vatten.\n\nGrundläggande geoteknisk/geologisk kompetens är
